My Favourite Poet

Dear AGuide2Everything Family,

As per request of our good friend (and contest winner!!) eddaz, today I’ll write about my favourite poet.

It was indeed a tough question, a good question, which is what brings my post with a day’s delay.

The first person who came to mind was, of course, Shakespeare. I love Shakespeare’s work and just as I was about to choose him, I realized how many other fantastic poets this choice was leaving out!

I came to the conclusion that my favourite poet is Edgar Allan Poe.

Born in 1809 at Massachusetts, Poe is mostly known as a writer… but he also was a poet, editor, & literary critic.

So you may say… “okay! But what factors lead you to this decision?”

Here are the several features of Edgar which inspired my decision:

1. Easy comprehension

2. Traces of humor in almost every poem

3. Love for nature

4. How his poetry sometimes reflects parts of his past life – which assisted him to write passionately and to make the plot interesting (he was a naturally-born story teller).

How about you guys? Who would you say is your favourite poet? Are they classic or modern? What poetry do you like in general?

Once again, thank you to Eddaz! Be sure to join her interesting blog 😀

Stay awesome guys,

Vasil

    1. Hi PlantsandBeyond,
Classical Russian poets are extraordinary!! Nekrasov, Pushkin, Lermontov…
I can actually read Russian – which allows me to enter the world of Russan classics. Who is your favourite Russian poet /top3 ? 🙂

  1. I’m glad you loved the question and answered it accurately. Also thanks for recommending my blog. You know Shakespeare is also my most favourite poet, his poems used to thrill me so much while I was still a teenager and still does😀

  2. Great post! Edgar’s one of my favorites as well! I must say, though, the modern late Maya Angelou is my all-time favorite. There’s so much wisdom and empowerment in her verses.

    1. Thank you, To Young Hearts! To be honest, I’ve never heard of Maya Angelou – if she’s your favourite, I bet she’s very good 😀 What is her genre/ style? 😮

And it’s my pleasure, dear friend

      1. Yes, she has great works out there. 🙂
I know that she uses candid and colloquial tones in her poems, some call her genre classical, but I think even more accurately, I’d describe her genre to be nonfictional and that of a memoir’s since it’s so direct and literal.

  3. Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Langston Hughes; heck anyone from the Harlem Renaissance… I love Poe too.

    1. A very rich collection of poets, Scherezade! Thank you for sharing it with us. By the way- your name is beautiful 🙂 It reminds me of the Scheherezade music piece

      1. Thank you but it’s just a pen name. Fitting for a writer given the story it came from.
